जिले के बारे में
अररिया जिला भारत के बिहार राज्य के अड़तीस जिलों में से एक है। अररिया जिला पूर्णिया प्रमंडल का एक हिस्सा है। जिले का क्षेत्रफल 2830 वर्ग किमी है। जिले में कुल 2 उपमंडल अर्थात् अररिया और फारबिसगंज और 9 ब्लॉक हैं। अररिया उपमंडल में छह ब्लॉक शामिल हैं: अररिया, जोकीहाट, कुर्साकांटा, रानीगंज, सिकटी और पलासी और फारबिसगंज उपमंडल में तीन ब्लॉक शामिल हैं: फारबिसगंज, नरपतगंज और भरगामा। इस जिले में छह विधानसभा क्षेत्र हैं: नरपतगंज, रानीगंज (एससी), फारबिसगंज, अररिया, जोकीहाट और सिकटी। ये सभी अररिया लोकसभा क्षेत्र का हिस्सा हैं.
इतिहास
अररिया का अतीत बहुत गौरवशाली रहा है, हालांकि यह कुछ हद तक अनिश्चितताओं से घिरा हुआ है। महाभारत (सभा पर्व और वन पर्व) के कुछ अंशों में पूर्वी भारत में भीम की विजय का वर्णन है, जो इस जिले के प्राचीन इतिहास के बारे में महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी देते हैं।
प्राचीन काल में भारतीय इतिहास के तीन महत्वपूर्ण वंशों का यहाँ शासन था, इसलिए अररिया को तीन बिल्कुल अलग-अलग संस्कृतियों के मिलन-स्थल के रूप में देखा जा सकता है। उत्तरी हिस्से पर किरात जनजाति का शासन था, जबकि पूर्वी हिस्सा पुंड्रों के अधीन था और कोसी नदी (जो उस समय वर्तमान अररिया के पास कहीं बहती थी) के पश्चिम का क्षेत्र अंग वंश के अधीन था।
ए.जे. फोर्ब्स एक सैन्य साहसी व्यक्ति थे और उन्होंने उत्तर-पश्चिम भारत के अभियानों में भाग लिया था। वे भागलपुर के कमिश्नर यूल की उस टीम का भी हिस्सा थे जिसने 73वीं नेटिव इन्फैंट्री के विद्रोहियों का मुकाबला किया था। ए.जे. फोर्ब्स ने सुल्तानपुर एस्टेट और इस जिले में कई जगहों पर नील की फैक्ट्रियां स्थापित की थीं। फोर्ब्सगंज उप-मंडल शहर का नाम उन्हीं के नाम पर रखा गया है।
1857 की स्वतंत्रता की पहली लड़ाई के दौरान, अररिया में भी विद्रोहियों और कमिश्नर यूल की सेनाओं के बीच कुछ झड़पें हुईं, जो नाथपुर के पास हुई थीं। 1857 की घटना और कानून-व्यवस्था से जुड़ी अन्य स्थितियों को देखते हुए, बेहतर प्रशासन प्रदान करने के लिए 1864 में अररिया, मटियारी, डिमिया और हवेली व बहादुरगंज के कुछ हिस्सों को मिलाकर अररिया को एक उप-मंडल बनाया गया और अंततः 1990 में यह एक जिला बन गया।(About the District
Araria district is one of the thirty-eight districts in the Indian state of Bihar. It is part of the Purnia Division. The district covers an area of 2,830 square kilometers. It comprises two subdivisions—Araria and Forbesganj—and nine blocks. The Araria subdivision includes six blocks: Araria, Jokihat, Kursakanta, Raniganj, Sikti, and Palasi; the Forbesganj subdivision includes three blocks: Forbesganj, Narpatganj, and Bhargama. There are six Assembly constituencies in the district: Narpatganj, Raniganj (SC), Forbesganj, Araria, Jokihat, and Sikti. All of these fall under the Araria Lok Sabha constituency.
History
Araria boasts a glorious past, though it is somewhat shrouded in uncertainty. Passages from the *Mahabharata* (specifically the *Sabha Parva* and *Vana Parva*) describe Bhima's conquests in Eastern India, providing significant insights into the district's ancient history.
In ancient times, three major dynasties ruled this region; consequently, Araria can be viewed as a confluence of three distinct cultures. The Kirat tribe ruled the northern region, while the eastern part was under the Pundras, and the area west of the Kosi River (which flowed near present-day Araria at the time) was under the Anga dynasty.
A.J. Forbes was a military adventurer who participated in campaigns across North-West India. He was also part of the team led by Yule, the Commissioner of Bhagalpur, that confronted the mutineers of the 73rd Native Infantry. Forbes established indigo factories at the Sultanpur Estate and several other locations within the district. The Forbesganj subdivision and town are named after him. During the First War of Independence in 1857, skirmishes took place in Araria—specifically near Nathpur—between the rebels and the forces of Commissioner Yule. In light of the events of 1857 and the prevailing law-and-order situation, Araria was constituted as a subdivision in 1864 by amalgamating Araria, Matiyari, Dimia, and parts of Haveli and Bahadurganj to ensure better administration; it eventually became a district in 1990.)
